INTERNATIONAL: Anna Nicole Died of Accidental Overdose

Current Headlines: Former Playboy model Anna Nicole Smith died from an accidental drug overdose, authorities in the US announced yesterday.

Seminole Police Department chief Charlie Tiger said the autopsy finding effectively closed the case on Smith's sudden death in February.

There was no evidence of foul play and no illegal drugs were found in her room, he added. "This case is an accidental overdose with no other criminal elements present," Mr Tiger said.

Broward County medical examiner Dr Joshua Perper said Smith had nine drugs in her system, but a dose of the sleeping medication chloral hydrate "tipped the balance".

It combined with other therapeutic doses of medicines, including some for anxiety and depression, to kill her.

An infection in her buttock stemming from an injection of growth hormone and viral flu also contributed, he added.

Dr Perper said his team ruled out suicide.
