Move to Honor Timberlake Just Another Bill

Current Headlines: Tennessee lawmakers may wish Justin Timberlake well in his musical career, but some say they're a bit leery about honoring him and his SexyBack officially.

State Sen. Ophelia Ford of Memphis wants to honor the Memphis native for, among other things, appearing on The Mickey Mouse Club and winning the heart of many a young fan with his dance moves and stunning vocal abilities, the Nashville City Paper said Thursday.

Her resolution was on the legislative Consent Calendar, usually reserved for bills, such as resolutions honoring Tennesseans, that are usually passed with nary a dissent.

But some lawmakers had problems with the resolution's language. One senator pointed to the name of Timberlake's Grammy Award-winning album and tour: FutureSex/LoveSounds and FutureSex/LoveShow, respectively.

When the Senate went into session, Republican Sen. Raymond Finney, Senate Calendar Committee chair -- the committee controls the Consent Calendar -- had the resolution bumped to the Regular Calendar, where it can be voted up or down, the report said.

State Senate Democratic Leader Jim Kyle joked that Finney held a grudge against Timberlake because he's a huge Janet Jackson fan, referring to the wardrobe malfunction that took place between the two performers at the 2004 Super Bowl when Jackson's breast was exposed.
