Iraq's Al-Sharqiyah Expects Ramadan's Execution 21 March

Current Headlines: Text of report by Dubai-based Iraqi private Al-Sharqiyah TV on 20 March

Citing the Deutsch Press Agency, official sources at Salah al- Din Governorate, north of Baghdad, said on Monday that Taha Yasin Ramadan, vice president of late Iraqi President Saddam Husayn, will be hanged at dawn on Wednesday [21 March].

The sources, who requested to remain anonymous, added that Ramadan will be buried in the village of Al-Awja according to his will in which he requested to be buried next to the tomb of late Iraqi President Saddam Husayn and his late aides. The sources went on to say that there have been contacts with Saddam's tribe to determine the place of the tomb that will be next the tombs of Barzan [al-Tikriti] and Awwad al-Bandar, who were executed in January. Meanwhile, the tomb of late Iraqi president, who was hanged at dawn on the fist day of Id al-Adha, will remain alone inside the big hall in Al-Awja.

The Iraqi Cassation Court upheld the death sentence against Taha Yasin Ramadan last Thursday. The Iraqi Higher Criminal Tribunal issued this verdict in February after it had cancelled the life imprisonment verdict and the 24-year imprisonment issued against Ramadan, who was convicted in Al-Dujayl case.

Ramadan is the fourth former Iraqi official to be executed against the backdrop of this case in which eight persons were charged. Late Iraqi President Saddam Husayn, his half-brother Barzan Ibrahim al-Takriti and Awwad Hamad al-Bandar were hanged. [Video shows archives footage of Al-Dujayl trial]
