Indicted N.Y. Officers Surrender to Court

Mar 19, 03:07 PM

Current Headlines: The three New York police officers recently indicted in the death of a 23-year-old black man formally surrendered Monday at an area courthouse.

The detectives entered the Queens Criminal Court building early Monday morning to formally surrender to response to last week's indictment from a grand jury over the death of Sean Bell on Nov. 25, 2006, The New York Times said.

Sources said that the indictment charges officers Gescard F. Isnora and Michael Oliver with manslaughter, while charging detective Marc Cooper with reckless endangerment.

The men are accused of joining two other officers in the 2006 shooting of the unarmed man, who died hours before his wedding was to occur. It is unknown if charges would be filed against the other officers, Paul Headley and Michael Carey, in the matter.

The Times said that the officers, apparently convinced either Bell or one of his friends were armed, fired 50 shots during the incident.
