Current Headlines: The first stage of the inquest into the deaths of Princess Diana and Dodi Fayed will begin today at a preliminary hearing before Baroness Butler-Sloss.

The pre-inquest hearing follows a High Court decision on Friday ordering Lady Butler-Sloss to empanel a jury after ruling that she acted unlawfully when she decided to conduct the inquest on her own.

The extraordinary court battle was a victory for Harrods boss Mohamed al Fayed to have the inquest for his son and the princess heard before a jury of ordinary people.

Westminster City Council said Dr Paul Knapman, coroner for Westminster, is to accept jurisdiction for the inquests and appoint Lady Butler-Sloss as his assistant deputy coroner.
