Chicago Re-Elects Daley to Record Sixth Term

Current Headlines: CHICAGO _ Holding a virtually insurmountable lead, Mayor Richard Daley won re-election Tuesday night to an historic sixth term over Cook County Circuit Clerk Dorothy Brown and William "Dock" Walls.

Daley held nearly 72 percent of the vote with nearly three-fourths of the city's precincts reporting.

Daley's victory paves the way for him to become the longest serving mayor in city history _ ahead of his late father, Mayor Richard J. Daley.

At the Continental Ballroom at the Chicago Hilton and Towers, the room filled with Daley supporters who were required to show tickets before entering. Upstairs, Daley ate dinner with his extended family and later joined for celebrations with close friends, a spokesman for the mayor said.
